This Girls Who Code Des Moines Fall Session will be focused on web development with Python and Flask. Over 8 weeks, we will collaborate, design and develop a website concept. We will utilize a Python web framework called Flask to build the front end of a website and then look at what will be needed for the backend. This includes utilizing HTML, CSS and Javascript to design the elements, colors, animations and other objects for the user interface and then add form submission in Python on the backend to move data for the application.
Girls Who Code (GWC) Des Moines is a program for students in grades six to twelve to build coding skills and community while learning about women in tech. A nationally recognized movement, GWC clubs are a sisterhood of supportive peers and role models using computer science to change the world. Participants build coding skills and community as they complete projects through an adaptive curriculum. Locale female technology professionals serve as mentors, working with the students at camp and during monthly club meetups throughout the year.
The Girls Who Code Des Moines Fall Session will take place weekly on Mondays from 5:30 to 7pm at the historic Franklin Junior High, 4801 Franklin Avenue in Des Moines through November 4.
